The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change of the Government of India has started a program called National Clean Air program(NCAP) on 31 December 2018. National Green Tribunal mandated the installation of a Retrofit Emission Control Device with older DG set for reducing air pollution as per their order O.A. 681/2018 on 6 August 2019. Working Principle of Retrofit Emission Control Device (RECD)
The RECD is installed on the exhaust port of a DG set to reduce the harmful emissions. Then the exhaust of the diesel set passes through the RECD and ceramic filter in a stainless steel housing captures the harmful particles. A ceramic filter contains many tiny and parallel pores which is separated by thin walls and allow the air to pass. These small pores catch the dust particles(PM 2.5 to PM 10) from the diesel exhaust and reduce the emission.
The emission control system also uses alkaline metals, which helps you to perform oxidation process quickly by capturing the oxygen from the air.
